Plastic Ruins
Plastic Ruins I approaches microplastics as material remains of a system of production and waste. The work begins from the moment after their fragmentation, proposing a backward displacement: a possible reconstruction of their trajectories. From particles collected on beaches in Spain, the pieces are organised in simple compositions on fabric, classified by date and location. This gesture of order and observation transforms waste into record. The works function as an open catalogue that invites us to question the origin, trajectory and impact of these fragments, placing the viewer before the scale and persistence of the phenomenon.Plastic Ruins II stems from the observation of found plastic fragments and the impossibility of precisely tracing their origin. The work is composed of these remains arranged directly on the wall of the exhibition space, alongside scale reconstructions made through isometric drawing with thread. These structures trace the area and volume of mass-produced objects, suggesting possible correspondences with the collected fragments.Presented as forms —an upturned plant, a toy gun, a chair— the objects appear stripped of their function, shifting attention towards their material condition. The work thus proposes a reading in which form and fragment relate through speculation, evidencing the difficulty of reconstructing the history of these remains and the distance between the original object and its residual state.
