Artist Statement
Camila Lemoine R. artistic practice focuses on the exploration of fragments, fragility, and ruins, understood as material and symbolic forms of the present. Her work approaches reconstruction as a gesture that oscillates between care and transformation.
Through fabrics, threads, and sewing processes —languages linked to her early experiences in her mother’s workshop— she conducts research on discarded materials, particularly synthetic textiles and plastics, which she collects in various contexts. These fragments are treated as contemporary ruins: vestiges of global systems of production, use, and disposal.
Her practice incorporates methodologies akin to archaeology, allowing her to work with these materials as records of the present and to explore within them forms of memory, the overlapping of time, and material transformations linked to the global circulation of everyday objects.
In this context, concepts such as house and home —recurring themes in her practice— extend beyond the human realm, prompting reflection on other species and their ways of inhabiting, protecting, and building.
Across different scales —from the micro to the macro— her work examines how ecosystems are affected by the presence of synthetic materials and how these materials integrate, transform, and coexist with living organisms.
Her work spans drawing, sculpture, installation, and photography. She has exhibited at venues such as Flora y Fauno (Madrid), El Museo (Bogotá), Lugar a Dudas (Cali), Obra (Lund), the ARTBO art fair, the Beginnings festival (Évora), and the exhibition spaces at the Complutense University of Madrid.camilalemoine.arte@gmail.com
